Wealth Magnetism Basics: Overtime is Overrated
by Michael A. Thomas

In my younger days, I could remember my dad having to go to work early in the morning, and not returning home until late at night. When I was in middle school, I sometimes wouldn’t see him for days at a time because of his schedule.

On some holidays, he would sometimes pick up an extra shift, so after Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners, my brother and I would be watching sports, and my dad would be headed to work.

It was no secret that my dad worked hard for his money. He put in a lot of overtime hours to make sure the bills were paid, and that his family resided in the suburbs. He wanted to provide a better life for his family. And I wholeheartedly appreciate that.

He always taught me the importance of doing well in school, so that I was able to get opportunities he never had. But there was one thing, try as he might, he could not teach me.

You cannot become wealthy trading hours for dollars.

The concept is simple: You can only work so many hours in a day. At some point, you have to eat, sleep, and handle other personal business. In those situations, when you don’t work, you don’t get paid!

And let’s not even talk about people on salary, where you work some hours, and you’re NOT getting paid. But let’s not open up Pandora’s Box…

In any event, trading time for money usually is a losing formula, because someone else is determining your worth. You get paid according to the average pay grade for the position, in that the industry, in that part of the country (or world in some cases).

You want to be able to afford more of the finer things, get a little more vacation, or just keeping the creditors off you, so you decide to put in a few more hours at work. But what you may not realize, is that overtime is actually making you more broke in the long run.

Overtime is overrated for a few reasons:

1.The overtime money tax. You get a little more money, but Uncle Sam takes a much bigger cut than usual.

2. Your social life dwindles. I have done the overtime thing before, and trust me, it is not fun. You can’t hang out with friends and family if you are always working.

3. Rich people don’t trade time for money. Watch Vh1 when they run shows about the ridiculously rich. They always seem to have a lot of free time on their hands

If you need to pick up a couple extra shifts to pay the bills, do it. But if you are working overtime to get some extra money, come up with a new plan. There are more than enough opportunities make money.

Wealth Magnetism Basics: Money is Abundant

Wealth Magnetism Basics: Money is Abundant
by Michael A. Thomas

Unless you have been living under a rock the past few years, you have probably heard about a DVD called The Secret. If you haven’t, I’ll bring you up to speed. Essentially, The Secret is a 90-minute discussing how you can use the power of your mind to help create the life you want. It also displays the stories of individuals who have harnessed this amazing power to overcome major adversity.

Just about every part of that DVD had a different nugget of wisdom to know and understand. But they all seemed to stem from one integral notion: that everything life should be about abundance, including money.

Now, if you don’t hang out with people who own boats or summer homes…or associate with people who have a plethora of custom made suits…or hang around people who have proficient at wealth magnetism, you might be bamboozled into thinking that those people are evil and stingy, and that there is not enough money to go around.

To the contrary, prosperous people seem to be coming out of the woodworks, like there is some big party happening, and you did not get an invitation. According to marketing reports, the “mass affluent” is the fastest segment of the population in the U.S., and only looks to grow even larger.

Try this experiment out next time you are at a book store. Check out copies of Millionaire Worth and The Robb Report and see if you think there are still only a small percentage of people living the high life.

Check out your local auction for classic cars. Go to the ritzy parts of town and immerse yourself in the lifestyles of the affluent, and you’ll be surprised at how many people there are out there with the wherewithal to buy what they want, when they want (and most times, at pretty steep prices).

In short, to begin the process of attracting wealth, you need to reprogram your mind to think in a different manner. You must condition your mind to believing, unequivocally, that there is in fact no short supply of money, but that it is abundant.

That being said, training your brain is a lot like training at the gym. Just as you aren’t going to be fit after one day of physical exercise, you aren’t going to be mentally fit in one day either. It’s an ongoing process.

To help speed things along, you’ll need to continue to immerse yourself in the affluent lifestyle to truly understand what they do, and more importantly, why they do it. I assure you, it will be the best research project you will ever take on.

Knowledge equals Power? No

Knowledge equals Power? No
by Michael A. Thomas

There is an old adage that I learned in my younger years in reference to the educational system and thoughts about learning. It was the notion of “Knowledge is Power”. As I grew older, I realized it was a part of a major marketing campaign (a pretty good one at that) to give adolescents the incentive to read books. But I also learned another truth about that notion.

The statement is only half right.

You see, learning new things is empowering, but does not grant you power. As the best-selling book Think and Grow Rich states, Knowledge is only POTENTIAL POWER.

Knowledge equals power, if and ONLY if it is intelligently directed toward a goal.

Great deals of so-called book worms are great examples of this half-truth. They will give you a lot of facts and figures, but hardly ever tell you how to apply the knowledge they’ve received. Many will say that a one should journey to find applications for that knowledge, but that is generally a cop out. They give that excuse because in most cases, they DO NOT know how to successfully apply the knowledge they have learned.
Shame, isn’t it?

Now, this doesn’t mean that reading is not fundamental, or that you should burn you book collection. It does mean, though, that you should always be looking for ways to relate what you have learned to your life and situations. What I like to call “connecting the dots”.

Having general knowledge helps with common sense, but learning and applying specialized knowledge will grant you power.
